The Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA) has been awarded the Gold Risk Management Award by the insurance divisions of the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM), recognizing HHA’s outstanding commitment to safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
The Gold Risk Management Award is the highest level of recognition presented by ALM and is reserved for organizations demonstrating exceptional risk management and loss control practices. HHA’s achievement places it among a select group of public entities statewide that have successfully implemented proactive strategies to reduce risk, protect assets, and create safer environments for employees, residents, and the broader community.
Approximately 800 public entities across Alabama participate in ALM-sponsored insurance programs, including the Municipal Workers’ Compensation Fund (MWCF) and the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation (AMIC). Established in 2002, the ALM Risk Management Award program recognizes members whose loss ratios reflect effective safety programs, staff training, and strong internal controls. Gold-level recipients maintain loss ratios below five percent.
Through consistent investment in employee training, safety protocols, property maintenance, and operational oversight, the Huntsville Housing Authority has minimized workplace incidents and property-related losses while maintaining a strong focus on resident well-being. These efforts directly support HHA’s mission to provide safe, quality, and affordable housing while operating as a responsible steward of public resources.
ALM presents Risk Management Awards at three levels—Gold, Silver, and Bronze—based on performance benchmarks. First-time recipients receive a plaque, with additional recognition awarded for continued excellence in subsequent years.
Based in Montgomery, the Alabama League of Municipalities was founded in 1935 and serves as the unified voice for Alabama’s cities and towns.
